WanderNudges for Practitioners

Surreal projective cards for online therapy, coaching and counselling

The projective card deck for practitioners who work where words run out.

What it is

A modern projective card deck —
designed for telehealth from the start

WanderNudges is a 32-card deck of metaphoric associative cards made for therapy, counselling, coaching, and facilitation. If you’ve used OH Cards, Points of You, or Dixit clinically, it works in the same family — but with contemporary surreal imagery that respects the client and looks credible in the room.

Unlike most projective decks, it was built from the start to work on a screen: share via screenshare in Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet, or send a single image to a client in chat. The deck isn’t a diagnostic tool. It’s a way to bypass verbal defences, surface what’s been hard to name, and give the client an image to think with — in person or online.

In a working practice

Four ways the cards earn their place

01
As a session opener
Share a card on screen and ask: “What does this bring up for you?”
No setup required. A low-pressure entry point that reliably leads somewhere useful.
02
As a closing ritual

At the end of a session, ask the client to pick a card that represents where they’re leaving the conversation. Creates a natural endpoint and something to carry into the week.

03
As a between-session reflective tool

Assign a card for the week alongside the client explainer sheet. Clients return with something concrete — and something they chose themselves.

04
For non-verbal or somatic work

The imagery bypasses language entirely. Particularly effective with trauma, adolescents, and clients where words are the barrier rather than the bridge.

"I have a client who really struggles to talk about her experiences and to identify, connect with, or articulate her feelings about them. However, she connected strongly with a few of the cards and was able to communicate what resonated with her, the meaning she attached to them and some of the feelings she had when looking at them. It provided a lot of insight into how she sees herself, and her inner world, and it enabled her to speak a little about her past without reliving or becoming flooded by it."

Common questions

About the deck

The clinical principle is the same — projective imagery to open client reflection. The difference is aesthetic and format. OH Cards are decades old and the imagery shows it; Points of You leans more coaching than therapy. WanderNudges uses contemporary surreal imagery that reads as art rather than as a clinical aid, and was designed from the start for screen use rather than adapted from a physical deck. Both matter when you’re working with adult clients who’d otherwise dismiss something that looked too “self-help.”

The full deck is 32 cards. The free sampler is a curated subset of twelve, enough to try the approach across several sessions before deciding whether to bring the whole deck into your practice.

The cards are ambiguous and open-ended, with no explicit or distressing content. They’re designed to support gentle projective work, not to provoke. As with any projective tool, the practitioner stays responsible for clinical judgement around what’s appropriate for which client. The facilitator guide includes notes on this.

The cards themselves haven’t been independently studied — almost no projective card deck has. The underlying principles (projection, metaphor, image-based dialogue) are well established in clinical literature. The deck is best understood as a tool for already-trained practitioners to use within their existing modality, not as a stand-alone intervention.

Tech & format

Yes — the deck was designed for it. The full deck PDF can be screen-shared in Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, or any video platform. Individual card JPGs can be sent in chat or by email between sessions. The thematic cluster PDF lets clients scan and select on screen without needing physical cards in hand.

Yes. The format is digital, but the use cases work equally well face-to-face displaying individual cards on a tablet or smartphone.

Everything is delivered digitally. You’ll receive a download link by email immediately after checkout — the deck PDF, individual card JPGs, the facilitator guide, and the supporting one-pagers. Nothing ships physically, and there’s nothing to install.

Licensing & use

A perpetual practitioner licence for use in your own clinical or coaching practice with your own clients. Individual cards may be shared with active clients as part of the work. The deck may not be redistributed, resold, or used to train another product. Full terms accompany each tier.

The team licence covers multiple named practitioners under one purchase — useful for group practices, clinics, and training organisations where several therapists or coaches each need their own access. Specify the number of seats at checkout; each practitioner receives the full deck and accompanying materials.

The paid deck is a digital download, and once the files are made available, purchases are non- refundable — which is exactly why the free sampler exists. The sampler is the way to try the deck with your clients before you commit, and anyone unsure should start there. Your statutory rights for faulty or misdescribed content aren’t affected — if anything’s wrong with the files, email us and we’ll put it right.
